There are various ways to supplying Medical Oxygen for Hospitals
Portable
- Portable O2 Concentrators – typically 5 lit/mins
- Mini cylinders (~20 lit) with oxygen regulator
- Jumbo cylinders (~50 lit) connected to centralised O2 Pipeline
Static
- PSA O2 generation plant ( typically 500 LPM to 1500 LPM) connected to centralised O2 pipeline
- Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) tank connected to centralised O2 pipeline
- O2 cylinders refilling plant – on commercial level – Min 10000 Sqft space required + Civil Work + machinery
In SDH Kinwat, a 50 bed govt hospital we used to supply oxygen through Jumbo cylinders. Then around the month of November 2020, tender for PSA O2 Gen plant was floated (details below). It took some time to process tender and work order was placed in early march. A month went by in manufacturing, shipping, installation and commissioning. By April 11 – during the peak of Covid 2nd wave the O2 plant was up and running, giving much respite to the administration and doctors. Else the option was to ferry 40 odd Jumbo cylinders to Nanded, 150 KMs away every 2-3 days for refilling.
Cost estimate for 500LPM O2 plant ~Rs 35 Lacs

There were some hiccups in commissioning – electrical load of plant was high, so appropriate wiring had to be done. In order to ensure that there will be uninterrupted power supply, MSEB was asked to do the needful.
